Martinfeld is picturesquely situated in the middle of the Heuberg and Westerwald areas. There are several restaurants and cafés in the village. “Klueschen-Hagis”, a place of pilgrimage, lies between Martinfeld and Wachstedt. A falconry can be found nearby in Burg Gleichenstein.
There is an old water mill, the Grabenmühle, dating back to the 16th century in the village. Visitors can see how many times grain must be ground to produce flour. Nearby an old viaduct, the Kanonenbahn, exists at Lengefeld unterm Stein.
Other sites to be seen around Martinfeld are: the “Blue Wonder” at Burg Gleichenstein, the “Ershaeuser Window”, “Ibenkuppe” and “Thomas Bridge”. Worbis, with its bear park, is 20 minutes away on the motorway.
The nearest outdoor swimming pool is in Ershausen 2 miles/3 km away. Heiligenstadt (8 miles/13 km) has a large fun pool and thermal baths. There is also a cultural centre here and the tree top walk nearby.
Eschwege is 12 miles/19 km away, Muehlhausen 16 miles/25 km and Goettingen 25 miles/40 km. Martinfeld lies on the Natural Parks’ Hiking Trail “from Werra to Leine”.
